How much does a gardener cost in South Africa?
Garden work is one of the most-requested home services in South Africa, but prices vary a lot by region, garden size and the worker's experience. Here's how rates typically work and what you'll pay on Sizoro.
What garden workers charge per hour
On Sizoro, every garden worker sets their own hourly rate. Rates start at South Africa's national minimum wage and rise with experience, how physically demanding the job is and local demand. You always see the exact rate before you book — there is no bargaining and no surprise call-out fee.
How Sizoro's fees work
Sizoro adds a booking fee of 5% + VAT on top of the labour, and the worker pays a 5% + VAT commission out of their earnings. Both are shown in the price breakdown before you pay. You are charged only once the job is confirmed complete, and any tip goes entirely to the worker.
What affects the price
The biggest factors are how long the job takes and the worker's hourly rate. A quick tidy-up costs far less than clearing an overgrown plot. Weekend and public-holiday rates may be higher where a worker offers them. Garden size, travel distance and once-off versus regular visits all play a part.
